Hello, hope you have fun making and trading ATCs here! Any kind of art or craft paper can be used and will depend on your intended purpose (what kind of medium, etc). The size (2.5*3.5 inches) is the key thing and that the end product be stiff like a trading card, just like Esmeralda says. I'm big on re-using things, so lately I've been using regular white card stock---I have tons of perfect 2.5" strips from a previous project. In addition to Esmeralda's suggestions, if you are using a light weight paper, you can glue it onto a regular playing card (check it's size first though as they aren't all the proper size).

Your welcome :) You will do great. Sometimes they can be addictive :) As far as what paper to use I have used bristol (it is like a thick card stock used for drawing) and watercolor paper depending on what your wanting to do on it. For watercolor pieces I go with watercolor paper because bristol can become too wet sometimes. Most of the time I do use bristol for hand drawn and some painted ATCs I do in acrylic, or water soluble crayons. Or you can use regular paper if your drawing on it, and then glue it on a more stable base like card stock or a piece from a cereal box as long as the size of the piece is 2.5"x3.5" (2 1/2"x3 1/2"). Hope I have helped you some :)
